LeanProject, Inc. was an out-growth of the Lean Construction Institute in response to requests for coaching and support on projects and in companies.
Greg Howell, longtime president of LCI, started LeanProject with Glenn Ballard. In 2002, Hal Macomber joined the firm replacing Glenn as a full partner with Greg. Greg and Hal worked as “two guys consulting” for 2 years before bringing on associates. The firm has grown steadily since.
With the continued growth of the company and the lean movement, we realized that we needed to take our organization to the next level. In 2012, Klaus Lemke joined the firm as Managing Principal. We continue to refine our offerings in the marketplace, improve our processes, train our people and recruit experienced coaches to serve our clients’ needs.
There are two common threads to all the work that LeanProject has done…it’s project-based and guided by lean principles. The firm has worked in a variety of industries from defense contractors to fabricators of curtain-wall systems, mechanical systems and concrete products, although most of the work has been done for the architectural, engineering and construction industry. We started by consulting on specific projects. By 2006, we began helping clients change how they delivered all their projects and in the course make an organizational transformation. In 2008, we began work on our first integrated project delivery (IPD) project. Since then, we’ve coached dozens of IPD projects from $400,000 to $6 billion.
