Susan Reinhardt is a Lean Coach with LeanProject. She is also a licensed architect in California and Colorado, and has worked in the design and construction industry since her first job in 1991 designing schools and multi-family housing in Switzerland. Susan excels at managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders, and has acted as project architect/manager for public projects ranging from a $1.5M mountain library to $30M recreation centers, $700M research facilities in Singapore, and a $4B university in Saudi Arabia.
Susan quickly developed a reputation for rescuing failing projects and bringing order out of chaos. She began developing new project management methods early in her career to ensure that projects were successful from the beginning. She also started coaching colleagues and clients in methods for removing wasteful activities and seizing opportunities for improved collaboration that increased owner value, profits, and project team satisfaction. Her specialties were eliminating overtime and making sure clients got exactly what they needed at the right price.
Susan left Denver in 2005 to pursue an MBA in International Management from the Thunderbird School of Global Management, where she enthusiastically learned about Lean and began to apply Lean principles. She also spent 16 months in South Sudan and Kenya, teaching business classes to local entrepreneurs in the construction industry and assisting tradesmen to conserve materials and improve product design and pricing.
Before joining LeanProject, Susan started her own design firm to provide architectural services as well as Lean consulting for multiple design and construction firms. She is well-versed in applying Choosing By Advantages, Value Stream Mapping, Target Value Design, Last Planner System, and other Lean methods, and loves helping owners and project teams discover the advantages to building Lean. She also likes to link Lean principles with sustainable architecture, a complementary match that keeps sustainable design affordable through whole systems thinking. In short, Susan helps Owners and project teams satisfy their clients (and end users) on time and on budget, but NOT on holidays or weekends!
